In order to develop the Ortenau district with a future-proof fiber optic network, the district administration decided to take the expansion into its own hands and support its 51 municipalities in the form of an operator model – with the help of federal and state funding and the establishment of the special-purpose association.

Since 2017, numerous master plans and the backbone network have been created in accordance with the state funding requirements. Since 2019, co-financing from the state of Baden-Württemberg for the federal funding program has increased the funding rate to 90% of eligible costs. Since then, MRK Media AG has been developing the automated creation of the necessary planning data in close cooperation with the special-purpose association in order to meet the detailed requirements of the funding programs.
